Food Wastage is a Crisis

But just how severe is it?

According to NEA, 676800

tonnes of food are wasted (as of 2017)

That's heavier than 3000 MRT trains combined!

What's worse? Only 16% of wasted food is recycled.

And what might be fuelling this crisis?

Could it be managerial, financial or technical constraints?

Unlikely. Singapore is a first world country having over

50000 USD per capita GDP.

Singapore is one of the least corrupt countries and our education system ranks first in Asia Pacific.

Managerial and technical constraints do not impact Singapore too much.

What about errors in industrial processing and keeping up with food safety policies?

Singapore has high food safety standards, with evidence from its Points Demerit System.

Well, it is really because we order too much food!

60% of people would waste less food if they had more information on how to plan meals and store food.

And 26% of people buy more than enough food 70% of the time to ensure that they have plenty to eat.

and also not forgetting your budget of the day!

Here's how it would work

Firstly, you would enter your personal information such as height, age, weight to calculate your recommended calorie intake

Secondly, you can proceed on to find meals that fit your choice

Lastly, you can customise your diet planner, and even save the plan to your own desktop

Here's how we can use the knowledge we just learnt in our daily lives as well

In summary,

  2. We can do much more for the environment by planning our consumption better
